Traveling on {modified} bed rest

As I mentioned in my last weekly update, my midwife gave me the go ahead to travel under the following conditions:
  1. I am not driving.
  2. I will lie horizontal on my side.
  3. I am going somewhere with a NICU nearby just in case {better to be safe}.
{disclaimer: these apply to me only and if you are on bed rest you must get your own instructions from your healthcare provider!}

So...what did traveling on {modified} bed rest look like for me?
  • Hubby packs the car {no heavy lifting for me}
  • 4 pillows and a blanket for the back seat
  • Random stop at Walmart to satisfy a goldfish/"slightly nauseous and need carbs on my stomach"craving
  • Trying to avoid drinking water so we don't have to stop a million times for the bathroom
While the back seat was not as comfortable as the sofa the 4 pillows did help. I will say getting in/out of the car was a bit of an adventure with that much stuff in the back seat.

All in all, it was a success! I still had to follow my horizontal rules for most of the day, but I am allowed to sit up/walk down to the beach to sit {thankful we had a house REALLY close because otherwise I wouldn't be allowed to make it that far} for 1-2 hours at a time. Then it's back to the sofa! At this point I usually am up for 1-2 hours a couple times a day.

It was awesome to have a change in scenery, get some awesome maternity shots on the beach {see post HERE}, and catch up with family. I thought this year might be the first in my life I didn't see the ocean, but crisis averted.
