Whole Wheat Oatmeal Pancakes

The other day I set out to find a yummy but wholesome pancake recipe to make for Little Lady. Of course I ended up eating a decent amount too {as did the dog}. I was inspired by this recipe from Of course, I {modified} it the recipe to work with the ingredient and kitchen tools that I had in the kitchen.

Whole-Wheat Oatmeal Pancake Recipe
Makes 8-10 medium pancakes

1/2 c whole-wheat flour
1/2 c old fashioned oats
1 TBS maple syrup
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 c whole milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tablespoon applesauce
1 egg

  1. Place oats and milk in food processor or large cup and soak for 5 minutes. If you're using quick cooking oats then you can skip this step.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and blend until smooth.
  3. Heat a pan or griddle that is lightly oiled over medium high heat. {I use ghee, also known as clarified butter.} Add about 1/4 cup of batter and cook.
  4. Serve and enjoy!

Lately I have cooked the entire batch and placed them in the fridge for reheating. I bet you could freeze them as well. They are a hit with Little Lady! Perfect for a quick and easy breakfast.

Stroller Invasion

Do you ever look at your house and think "Wow! It's looking better! {or cleaner, or less cluttered, or with less infant gear strewn about...}" and then you realize there is a hint of stroller in sight. Or 3 strollers.

Yes, some days there are 3 strollers parked in our living room. Please tell me I'm not the only one.

We desperately need a garage.

Bye Bye Fruit Couch

Meet the "Fruit Couch".

I spent a lot...and let me repeat...A LOT of time on this sofa when I was pregnant and on {modified} bed rest. Why? Because it's the most comfortable sofa in our house. When you are spending almost every hour of the day lying on your side it's important to be on the most comfortable sofa you got.

In case you can't see from afar why we call it the "fruit couch" here is a close up.

Lovely ain't it? Ok well it might be more appropriate in someone else's house. Let's just say it's not my style and I've been scheming up solutions for a long time.

Truthfully, the fruit couch is really "Penny's couch".

The fabric is so old and thin that when she paws at it before curling up she has ripped holes in the cushions. We temporarily have repaired them with duct tape and fleece blankets. It's been like this for over a year.

Let's just say a change has been long over due.

After scouring Pinterest for inspiration I finally settled on recovering the sofa myself with canvas drop cloth.  I am LOVING the results. Check back soon to see the finished product.

9 month toys

The last few months Little Lady has enjoyed her Green Toys My First Stacker. She has banged it, chewed on it, and knocked it down.

As of yesterday, she is now stacking it as well.

The highest tower so far has been 4 pieces tall. This stacker is fantastic because she can explore the shapes and sizes in so many more ways than a traditional stacker with a post.

She also has come really far along with her Tolo Toys Shape Sorter

Tonight she put all 6 objects in their slots in one sitting. Of course you have to place the corresponding shape slot closest to her, but she will manipulate each piece util she can push it in.

Seriously loving this age and watching her learn.

Doing Whatever It Takes

Sometimes your baby has a breakdown in the middle of a shopping trip. What do you do? Grab the nearest object in the checkout line and start making funny faces.

Peak-a-boo with child-like lady liberty anyone?

"Don't eat it!" Dog Edition

Yesterday I posted about teaching Little Lady not to eat certain things. Today is my dog's turn.

I love my pup. She has been there by my side for so long, including pregnancy and {modified} bed rest. However, she and Little Lady are at about the same cognition level right now when it comes to putting things in their mouths.

Partners in crime. Today: the avocado pit.

It hit the floor during lunch time and gulp. Down it went. Two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide and two vomiting episodes later there still was no avocado pit.

I had the hubby scour the house to make sure I wasn't going crazy and that the silly avocado pit wasn't hiding somewhere. Of course, it was no where to be found.

Off to vet where I had to answer that "no...I'm not 100% sure she ate it..."

25 minutes later I get a call. "We found the pit!" Luckily this was the vet calling to say they had been able to induce Penny to throw it up. Phew.

After the vet we headed to the pharmacy to pick up some meds for the Little Lady. Here is Penny eagerly hoping they give her a treat at the pharmacy drive thru.

They had pity on her. They gave her 5 dog treats. I guess her day turned out okay.

On the other hand, Little Lady had her 9 month appointment today. She is 29% in weight, 25% in length, and 80% in head circumference. Little Lady...big head.

"Don't eat it!"

"Don't eat it" has become a frequently used phrase around our house. Amazingly, Little Lady listens and, temporarily, and takes {or throws} whatever it is out of her mouth. I can hear her teenage voice in my head..."It wasn't me! I didn't do it!"...oh gosh... Of course I'm pretty sure that she forgets she's not suppose to eat it and tries again within seconds to minutes. It's a learning process.

I feel like I find myself most frequently saying "don't eat it" to...

Toilet Paper.

My iPhone.

And sticks.

Yes sticks. She is picking up some of her big sister's habits.

Of course I still let her eat almost anything that isn't dangerous. It helps decrease any oral sensitivities to texture which can play a role in food preferences down the road. {Picky eating is definitely NOT a problem right now if you remember from her 9 month update.} Still, I would like to keep it that way.

9 months old

Little Lady is 9 months old this did that happen?

This time last year I was settling in on my sofa for my {modified} bed rest and starting this blog. It's crazy to go back and read my 26 week update. I looked something like this:

What a difference a year makes! {It would make sense to insert a current picture right now however I realize now looking at my photos that most of the time I am behind the camera.} At that point I wasn't sleeping well since I was lying around all day and missing frozen margaritas on those hot July days.

Little Lady continues to be such a happy baby. The one word I think of to describe her is JOYFUL. She has always been filled with such joy and not afraid to show it. I love that about it.

She is cruising all over the place, crawling up the stairs, and loves loves loves playing in water. It doesn't matter if it's the ocean tidal pools, the family pool, the baby pool on the porch, or even the dog's water bowl, she will bee line straight for it.

I love how excited she gets to arrive at her school. Currently, she only goes 3 days a week but she starts kicking and smiling as soon as we arrive. It melts my heart to know how much fun she is having while I'm at the hospital seeing patients. I really love my job and it's great to have us both enjoying ourself even if we are apart.

Little Lady loves getting into things right now. From tearing up every piece of paper she can find, unrolling the toilet paper, emptying every box or container or purse she can find. She is one curious girl.

She is still sleeping about 11 hours at night and taking 2 naps a day. She just dropped to breastfeeding 4 times a day. Strangely she dropped her bedtime {7ish PM} feed. During the day she also eats 3 full meals of table food. It's ridiculous how much this little girl can eat. Some of her favorite foods are chicken, pork BBQ, avocados, bananas, puffs, cantaloupe, and hush puppies {of course those she only got at the beach}. It's amazing how excited she gets over chicken. I have been loving doing {mostly} baby led weaning.

I love this little girl to pieces. Seriously.

Pool day

I finally ventured to the neighborhood pool. They have a large and lovely baby pool which entertained Little Lady for 30 mins.

Oh my little water baby. She gets so excited about all things water - pool, bath, the dog bowl...

So much fun. We may have to join the Y again to enjoy the indoor pool this winter.
